The Card of the Day: The Wheel of Fortune
“Making peace with life’s unpredictability.”
The Wheel of Fortune symbolizes the changeable nature of daily life. In the tarot book, "Following Your Path," Alexandra Collins Dickerman perceived the Wheel of Fortune as a metaphor for the changeable external world. The figures on the turning wheel illustrate that life brings periods where we feel on top of the world, and also times where we feel we hit rock bottom. Random things happen, sometimes good and sometimes bad. The rim of the wheel represents the external world with all its chaotic unpredictability. The center of the wheel represents our center, the vantage point of our best/higher/authentic self.
Are you stuck at the rim of the wheel, rising or falling with each unexpected event that happens? Can you take unexpected events in stride, or are you inflexible? Do you panic when something doesn't go according to plan?
If we wrap up our whole identity and value with what "everybody out there" thinks at the rim of the wheel, we are doomed to emotionally rise and fall with each acceptance or rejection we receive. However, if we can attach ourselves to our center, we can watch the chaotic ups and downs occurring at the edge of the wheel objectively, without taking them personally.
Today it's time to stop going on an emotional roller coaster with each random event. Staying fixed at the edge of the wheel can get emotionally exhausting. The truth is we don't have complete control of every life event that occurs. Sometimes #*%@ happens! People act unpredictably. People get fired. People win the lottery. People get hurt. People get lucky. Events don't go according to plan. All we can control is whether we will let our best self handle the situation or our "scared self."
Today, take random things in stride. Good or bad. Fair or unfair. Bring your A-game to every unpredictable situation you find yourself in. Learn to laugh at it all. Don't take life personally. All you have control over is you and your chosen response. Respond with excellence. Stay in your center, in the eye of the storm. View your current situation with the higher wisdom that resides within. Let random events occur around you. If you are centered they will leave you unruffled and unscathed.
This card foretells good fortune and luck for those who find their way back to their center.
