The Card of the Day: The Moon

“Unconscious emotions.”

The Moon symbolizes unconscious emotions. These "feelings" can actually alter your perception of the world around you. A person that hosts habitually negative emotions, will look at the world expecting to see negativity. Likewise, a person brimming over with enthusiasm, will see a world of joy. The Moon reminds you to check in with your unconscious emotions at this time. These emotions are actually coloring your perception of the “good” or “bad” things you are seeing in front of you. The Moon reminds you that your unconscious feelings and emotions must be addressed, or they will unconsciously rule you.

Deep within, how are you feeling right now? What "color" would you use to describe your emotions emotions right now? Are they a sad blue? A depressive grey? A sunny yellow? Do your emotions feel confident or anxious? Is there a pain within that needs compassion today?

The Moon beams brightly in the sky, mysteriously pulling on the instincts of the animals on the card. A wolf appears in the image, howling at the moon. The wolf represents the primitive, instinctual side of your nature. A domesticated dog also appears alongside the wolf. The dog represents your "civilized self." Hmmm.......and what is the dog doing in the card? He is howling at the moon just as loud as the wolf! This represents that no matter how "rational" and intelligent you may like to think you are, you will still be pulled by mysterious and irrational forces coming from deep within. The Moon is a force of nature, which tugs on your deepest feelings and emotions.

A lobster is drawn out of the deep waters, pulled from it lair by the power of the moon. Lobsters have hard shells to protect them from the world around them. However, there is no armor that can contend with the moon's power. This symbolizes that no matter how much you try to wear hardened armor over your own vulnerabilities, you will still be influenced by your habitual, sensitive nature. The lobster also illustrates that deeply repressed feelings periodically find their way to the surface to be released.

The Moon is far more than a pretty light in the night sky. If you ever gazed at it, it's luminous beauty tends to stir something deep within. Nature unconsciously "feels" the moon, because the moon’s great mass actually tugs on the earth's gravity as it orbits. The moon's great weight pulls on the oceans, lakes, and rivers as it circles the earth, creating the tides. Humans are made up of about 65% water. It is probably safe to say that our bodies are affected by this rhythmic, cyclical pull each month.

The moon tugs at even our most intangible emotions. When this card appears it's time to listen to your instincts, and confront the deepest feelings you harbor. The moon pulls upon your depth. Reconnect with your deeper, wiser, magical self. Like the lobster emerging from it's lair, let the wisdom you possess emerge from your depths, bringing valuable insights to your conscious mind. What feelings are surfacing for you?

When the Moon appears it reminds you to pay attention to your deepest feelings, intuitions and instincts. Your intuition will guide you through many challenges. Many people in our society would like to think the rational mind is the only foolproof way to experience reality. And yet, it is undeniable that we are creatures of feelings, and instincts. Sometimes people don't act rationally. Sometimes there is no "logical" explanation for why you feel the way we do. The Moon encourages you to see the unseen "signs" that present themselves on your path. Tune into the emotional undercurrents that are shaping your perception of reality. You possess great depth, and now it is time to reconnect with it. Becoming conscious of your unconscious emotions, is the first step toward improving them.
